Havanese Breed Information

Original Function: lapdog, performer

Temperament: Exceptionally bright, and learns well. Havaneses are social, cheerful and playful and even a bit of a clown. Get along with everyone including dogs, cats and other pets.

Recommended for: Most people/Families, allergy sufferers

Lifespan: 14 - 15 yrs

 

Height: 20-28cm (8' - 11")

Coat: Long, flat & soft

Colour: White, Cream, Champagne, Black, Black & Tan, Blue, Gold, Chocolate, Parti-colours & Tri-coloured.

General Appearance: The Havanese is a sturdy little dog, low on his legs, with long, abundant hair, soft and preferably wavy. His movement is lively and elastic.

The Havanese origins are from Cuba, they are related to the Bichon Frise and may be referred to as the Bichon Havanese or as the Havana Silk Dog.
They are a natural companion dogs: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. They are affectionate, playful and they are intelligent and training them is easy. These cheerful dogs are very sociable and will get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. This curious dog loves to sit up high on a chair to observe what is going on.

Grooming- regular brushing of the long coat is needed to keep it tangle free, the coat can be clipped to make less maintenance. Bath when needed.

Exercise- long play sessions are enough to keep them happy but regular walking as well will help keep the healthy.
